4  Hardware Expansions for LIAN DOS


4.1  Two-channel expansion module

Normally personal computers only have two serial interfaces, COM1 and COM2. The two-channel expansion module supplied with the program provides the additional interfaces COM3 and COM4 which are necessary for optimal use of the program. This module is a 16-bit serial card ( with FIFO ) which occupies the AT-interrupts 10 and 11 with the two additional interfaces COM3 and COM4. The AT-interrupts must therefore not be used for any other purpose.

4.2 Cable set and adapters


4.2.1 Scope of supply


Variant Large, - Variant Siemens, -Variant ABB

2 x monitor-cable,  9-pin-socket on 25-pin-plug

The cables each have a length of about 3 metres and an integrated CDE adapter.  On special request, adapters can also be delivered.

Variant IEC Standard

2 x D-9 plug -> D-25 socket,  ca. 2 meters


4.2.2 Description Monitor cables

The monitor cable with integrated CDE adapter provides the connection between the PC and the adapter top parts towards the test object. This cable can also be used as Siemens FWK16/ III monitor cable. The CDE switch must be in 'PCM' setting. Connection is made directly to the diagnostics socket of the Siemens LT component. CDE-adapter

The CDE adapter is integrated in the monitor cable. Through a 3-step switch, different functions can be set. LEDs of different colours show the levels of the transmission lines.

EES ( Receiver/ transmitter => Receiver )

Linking together of two half-duplex signals to one receiver. Allows you to record, e.g. during a 3964(R) DUST- or FAF22 SCTM transmission, TxD ( transmitter ) and RxD ( receiver ) on one channel

The LEDs are grouped together in pairs and refer either to the transmitter or to the receiver of the personal computer.

With the RTG adapter ( Cannon plug ) the monitoring cable can be connected to the test object, e.g. Siemens LK, VES or SEB components, via RTG sockets.

When recording half-duplex transmissions by using the EES function on the CDE adapter, one end of the RTG cable must be plugged to the transmitter and the other one to the receiver of the test object. Where either of the two RTG cables is plugged to is insignificant

When recording a full-duplex transmission by using the EES function only one end of the RTG cable must be plugged to the test object - either to the transmitter or to the receiver. The other end of the RTG cable must be kept open. Please make sure that the free end does not cause a short-circuit.

During the simulation ( with transmission ) please note the markings on the RTG cables and choose the correct position of the switch on the CDE adapter ( PCM/ PDM ).

Marking on the RTG connectors :
green dot  ( T or S )  ( transmit )  = Transmitter of the PC
yellow dot ( R or E )  ( receive )   = Receiver of the  PC HK adapter

With the HK adapter the monitor cable can be connected with the test object via clips ( Hirschmann ) 

green plug  ( transmit )  = Transmitter of the PC
yellow plug ( receive )   = Receiver of the  PC FWP adapter

The adapter serves as signal converter and must be plugged in between the monitor cable and the parameterization interface socket on the Siemens FWP component

The terminal function of the software package offers among others the possibility to use the PC as also-called pocket-terminal. This enables you to read and change data from the memory of a Siemens FWP component and write them back to the memory. The function can for example be used for changing parameters of SINAUT 8FW substations or changing data of the FWK8/ II.


4.3 Dongle

! ! ! The dongle is the license of your software, please take care of it  ! ! !

The supplied dongle is a small adapter with 25-pin plug and 25-pin socket that must be fitted to the LPT1 printer interface on your PC. The printer interface can still be used as before.

The dongle is a software licence protection device and is thus essential for proper operation of the LIAN program package. The two-channel expansion module is an option with dongle versions and thus now also allows the LIAN software package to be used on Notebooks that have no spare slots.

Older versions can also be converted to dongle versions at any time !
