3.12 AWD : Automatic Dial-up Service ( IEC 60870-5-101, AEG SEAB-1F )


 

With the automatic dial up function it is possible to test the station ( master or substation ) via telephone line. The LIAN 98 software can make a connection to the partner station ( RTU ) or master ( RTI ) via modem and telephone line and transmit or receive data. In this way the necessary data tests can be done comfortably out of the office via the telephone line.

LIAN 98 is able to process up to twelve modems in the range of COM1 till COM24 simultaneously. In the screen shot via the following link ( example: IEC 60870-5-101: 2 channel modem operation ) channel 1 is connected with channel 2 via two modems and a telephone line. Channel 1 is working as master ( RTI simulation ) and channel 2 as substation ( RTU simulation ).

For IEC 60870-5-101 and AEG SEAB-1F the login with the partner station takes place with a password. The password is always sent by the side which has initialized the connection and it will be checked from the opposite side. Is this check successful, the operation will be started. If not, the connection will be interrupted from the checking station. The password consists always of 16 characters. If the user enters less than 16 characters the rest will be supplemented with blanks by LIAN 98 before transmitting.

The automatic dial-up service was tested with two external modems "FP-Modem-EU" of the company "Panasonic Electric Works Europa AG". At this point we would like to thank very much the company Panasonic ( former Matsushita ) for its support and the extensive practice tests.

Establish a modem connection

When the modem status window is opened with on the toolbar of the channel window ( <cannel 1 ...12> ) LIAN 98 is immediately ready to receive incoming calls. Enter all necessary parameters for the connection in this window. All parameters are also maintained after a restart of LIAN 98.

The partner station will be dialed from LIAN 98 with the button "connect" in the status window. When the telephone connection is successful established LIAN 98 transmits the password after 2 seconds. Now LIAN 98 is waiting 10 seconds ( RTI simulation only ) if the partner station interrupts the connection because of an incorrect password. The RTU simulation is started immediatly.

In case of an incoming call LIAN 98 expects within 15 seconds a valid password after a successful telephone connection. When the password is valid the simulation will be started.

 

LIAN 98 dials a substation via modem and simulates afterwards a master station.

 

Modem

Modem allocated to this channel ( COM port ) is displayed. The selection of the corresponding modem has to be done in the configuration. ( <KNF file> )

Phone number

Enter here the phone number of the partner station to be dialed without blanks or brackets
( e.g. 09131755714 ). The maximum length of the phone number can be 32 characters.

RTI password

Only used for protocols IEC 60870-5-101 and AEG SEAB-1F !
After a successful connection with a master station the RTI password will be sent. LIAN 98 dials this master station and simulates thereby a substation.

Is LIAN 98 dialed from a substation, this substation sends a password and LIAN 98 compares the received password with the RTI password. In this case LIAN 98 simulates the master station.

The RTI password can contain a maximum of 16 characters.

RTU password

Only used for protocols IEC 60870-5-101 and AEG SEAB-1F !
After a successful connection with a substation the RTU password will be sent. LIAN 98 dials this substation and simulates thereby a master station.

The RTU password can contain a maximum of 16 characters.

LIAN 98 activates after the successful connection either the RTI simulation or the RTU simulation.

connect

When all necessary parameters are inserted click the button "connect". Then LIAN 98 will start the connection procedure.

 

LIAN 98 dials a substation via modem. The connection has failed.

 

LIAN 98 was called from a master station and simulates afterwards a substation.

 


Close modem connection

A modem connection will be closed with the button on the toolbar of the channel window ( <channel 1 ...12> ) or via closing the modem status window with the button . If the connection is closed via the stop button, the status window is still opened and LIAN 98 can receive incoming calls again or make a new connection itself. Via "deactivate modem" the status window will be closed and no incoming calls can be received. With the ending of the modem connection the simulation is also stopped.

 

LIAN 98 simulates a master station and the substation drops the connection.

 


Install modem

An individual modem can be installed and connected for each channel. LIAN 98 can process up to twelve modems ( COM1 till COM24 ) simultaneously. In order to do not lose track of modems or COM allocations please proceed as follows : Install first the modem for COM1 followed by the modem for COM2 and so on for each further COM port. In this case Windows installs the first modem ( COM1 ) under its modem name ( FP Modem EU = COM1 ) and adds for each further modem the modem name with an ascending number ( FP Modem EU #2 = COM2, FP Modem EU #3 = COM3, FP Modem EU #4 = COM4, ... ).

The settings of the modem must be executed generally via the windows control panel "telephone and modem options".
